AI retouching
AI photo retouching
for the photos you already have
AI photo retouching starts from a real shot and makes it usable everywhere: we clean it up, extend the background, fix the light, adapt it to new formats and keep color consistent across an entire catalog. We don't generate a new product. We work on your photo, with a retoucher checking every step. It's the service for brands that already have the shoot and need the images to do more.
In short
- Cleanup, background extension, relighting and new formats
- One landscape shot becomes 4:5, 9:16 and banners without a reshoot
- Consistent color across catalogs shot on different days and in different studios
- The product isn't reinvented: it stays the one in the photo
- Quoted on volume and complexity, estimate within one working day
What we do
What AI post-production
can do to a real photo
01
Cleanup
Dust, scratches, creases, loose threads, tags, unwanted reflections, stands and cables from the set.
02
Background extension
More room around the subject for copy, logos or a different layout.
03
Relighting
Softer or more directional light, rebuilt shadows, corrected reflections on glass and metal.
04
Outpainting for formats
From a landscape shot to vertical and square formats without cropping the product.
05
Batch color consistency
White balance and tones aligned across hundreds of images, against the real product sample.
06
Controlled upscaling
More resolution for print and banners, with detail checked. We compare tools in Magnific vs Topaz.
One shoot, every format
One shot,
every format you need
The most common problem isn't photo quality, it's format. The shoot was planned for the product page, then come the stories, the home page banner, the newsletter, the in-store poster. Cropping isn't enough: the product ends up on the edge or the copy doesn't fit.
| Use | What we do to the photo | What stays the same |
|---|---|---|
| Stories and reels | Extend above and below for vertical, leaving room for interface areas | Product, proportions, key light |
| Website banners and heroes | Widen the scene sideways for copy and rebuild the shadows | Product position and size |
| Feed and ads | Reframe to 4:5 or 1:1 with the subject centered | Color and materials |
| Print and windows | Upscaling and detail cleanup | Logo, labels, text |
Current sizes for each channel are in our guide to image sizes for social and e-commerce. If you need new settings, not just retouching, the right service is AI product photography.
Catalogs
Consistent color
across the whole catalog
A catalog shot over several days, by different photographers or under different light, shows it immediately in a grid: the same black looks like three blacks, the white background shifts from one page to the next. We align the whole set to a single reference, the physical product sample or the shot you approve, and apply it in batch.
AI doesn't decide product color on its own: we check every variant against the real reference, as we do for AI color variants. For e-commerce teams working to marketplace rules, we use the same workflow as our AI e-commerce images.
Process
How we work
on your photos
01
File handover
RAW or full-resolution files, plus samples or reference photos of the product.
02
Test on a few shots
We set the standard together: light, color, how much to clean, how far to extend.
03
Batch work
AI for the repetitive steps, hand retouching where precision matters.
04
Check against the real thing
Shape, color, logo, label and fabric compared with the reference.
05
Review and delivery
One revision round included, then files in every format you need.
Why the product check matters so much is explained in product and packaging fidelity in AI images.
Ethics and limits
What we won't retouch,
and why
With real people, retouching has a clear limit. We clean temporary blemishes, fix light and color, remove a crease from a garment. We don't slim bodies, change the shape of a face or figure, or alter the apparent age of a real model without their explicit consent. It's about respect for the person who posed and credibility for the brand. More on this in image rights and virtual models.
The same goes for the product: we don't make it bigger, glossier or a different color from what the customer will receive. Where an edit makes the image substantially generated, we label it in line with the EU AI Act transparency rules.
When retouching isn't enough
If the photo is out of focus, blurred or has the product cut off, no retouch will save it convincingly: reshoot it, or generate a new image from the product. The same applies if you want a completely different setting: that's AI product photography, not post-production.
FAQ
Questions about
AI photo retouching
Can AI extend the background of a photo?
Yes, that's outpainting: we extend the scene beyond the original edges to get vertical formats, banners or room for copy. The product stays the one in the photo; we only rebuild the surroundings and the shadows.
How much does AI post-production for a catalog cost?
It depends on the number of images and how much work each one needs: a light cleanup costs less than relighting plus background extension. We quote per project and send an estimate within one working day after seeing a few files.
Does AI retouching change the product color?
No, and we check for it on purpose. Every image is compared with the sample or the approved reference photo, so the color customers see online is the color they receive.
Can you change a model's body in post-production?
Not without their explicit consent. We fix light, color, garments and temporary blemishes, but we don't slim bodies or alter the facial features of real people.
What files do you need for AI retouching?
The highest-resolution files you have, ideally RAW, plus a reference of the real product for color and details. We also need the final destinations: website, marketplace, social, print.
You already have the photos.
Let's make them work harder.
Send a few shots and the formats you need: we start with a test.
