Zalando is one of the strictest fashion marketplaces on images: a file with the wrong ratio or a background that isn't allowed gets flagged, and the product stays offline. This guide sums up the Zalando image requirements for 2026, sizes, format, backgrounds and views, with links to the official guidelines and the mistakes we see most often.
Zalando image size and format
Every product image on Zalando is portrait with a 1:1.44 ratio. It's the rule that gets the most files rejected, because many studios deliver in 2:3 or 3:4, which look similar but aren't.
| Parameter | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Ratio | Portrait, 1:1.44 |
| Recommended size | 1801×2600 px |
| Minimum size | 762×1100 px |
| Designer brands | Minimum 1800×2600 px |
| File format | JPG / JPEG |
| Max file size | 20 MB |
| Colour profile | sRGB |
A practical detail: the ratio check rounds values, so an "almost right" file can be flagged. Always export at exact sizes such as 1801×2600 rather than resizing by eye (Zalando source).
Backgrounds: white for packshots, neutrals for on-model
Backgrounds are the second biggest source of errors, because Zalando distinguishes between image type and position in the gallery.
- Primary packshot. The product on its own, on a white background.
- Additional packshots. They can use a coloured background, but only from Zalando's accepted colour range and only as additional views, never as the primary packshot.
- On-model catalogue view. The background must fall within Zalando's neutral grey and beige range.
- On-model views on white. Accepted, but not as the front crop, the front view used in the catalogue.
In practice: if you shoot everything on white, the packshot is fine but the on-model front view isn't. If you use a coloured brand background, it can only appear in the extra views (Zalando source).
How many images and which views
The minimum number of images and the required views depend on the category: apparel, shoes, accessories and beauty have different rules, and the catalogue view can be a packshot or an on-model photo. So there's no single number for your whole range: start from your category's guide and build a checklist per season.
The views that appear most often on a fashion product page are front, back, a material or fastening detail, and a full-length or three-quarter on-model view.
"On Zalando a perfect image is useless if the ratio is wrong. Specs first, aesthetics second."
The most common mistakes
- 2:3 or 3:4 ratio instead of 1:1.44.
- Adobe RGB or CMYK instead of sRGB: colours shift on screen.
- On-model front view on white, not accepted as the front crop.
- Coloured background on the primary packshot.
- Different models, lighting and crops from item to item: not a technical error, but the category page looks messy.
- Garment colour not true to life: the number one cause of returns in online fashion.
Can you use AI images on Zalando?
The technical and content specs apply however the image is produced: ratio, background, views and accuracy to the product. What matters is that the image shows the garment the customer receives. A serious AI workflow starts from photos of the real garments (flat lay, mannequin or simple shots), applies the garment to a consistent model and checks colour, fabric, fit and details by hand.
It's the method behind our Zalando product images and AI on-model photography, explained in how to keep products true in AI images. Before each season, also check the partner portal for any updated Zalando guidance on generated content.
Pre-upload checklist
- Files at 1801×2600 px (or at least 762×1100), JPG, sRGB, under 20 MB.
- Primary packshot on white.
- On-model catalogue view on an accepted neutral background.
- Every view required by your category in place.
- Colour checked against the real garment.
- Same model, light and crop across the collection.
If you sell on several channels, the same masters adapt to Amazon and your own store too: see our Amazon image requirements guide and AI e-commerce images.
Frequently asked questions
What size should Zalando photos be?
A 1:1.44 portrait ratio, with a recommended size of 1801×2600 pixels and a minimum of 762×1100. Designer brands need at least 1800×2600. sRGB JPG files up to 20 MB.
What background does Zalando want?
White for the primary packshot. The on-model catalogue view needs a background within the accepted neutral grey and beige range; accepted coloured backgrounds are for additional views only.
How many images do I need per product?
It depends on the category: apparel, shoes, accessories and beauty have different requirements. Check your category's guide on the Zalando partner portal.
Why does Zalando flag my images when they look fine?
Often because of the ratio: the check rounds values, so a file that's slightly off gets flagged. Export at exact sizes such as 1801×2600 pixels.
Can I upload AI-made images?
Zalando's specs apply to any image. If the image starts from the real garment and represents it accurately, an AI workflow is one way to produce it; still check the partner portal for any updated guidance.
